Janie Sue "Granny" Roberts, 86, passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2023. She was born February 15, 1937, at home in the Cleveland community of Washington County, Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Elizabeth Smeltzer; her husband and high school sweetheart, Dean Roberts; sisters Dorcas Horovitz, Elizabeth Rice, and Mary Catron; and granddaughter, Hayleigh.
Survivors include her daughter, Pamela Sue Roberts Gibson, and husband, Dr. Jerry Gibson of Pembroke, Virginia.; grandchildren Rachel, William, and Hunter; two sisters, Wanda Morris of Bristol, Tennessee and Louise Wilson of Tifton, Georgia; a number of nieces, nephews, and other family members also survive.
Remembered for her beautiful brown eyes and local twang filled with love, and sense of humor that would warm your heart, Janie loved her family, friends, and flowers, and occasionally shared a bite of food with her fur babies, Lucky and Lilly, when no one was looking. Over her lifetime, she was an active church member, served as an accountant, a member of the Appalachian Trail Club, a high school cheerleader, and member of a local square dancing club. Her laugh was contagious and her cooking delicious.
A visitation will be held Friday, March 3, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at Frost Funeral Home with a funeral service beginning at 12:00 P.M. with Pastor Jim Goddard officiating. Interment will follow at the Cleveland Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
