Damascus, VA
Janet Barker Ragan,76, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2023 surrounded by her loving family and her beloved dog, Murphy. Janet is finally at rest after years of declining health due to many health issues.
Born July 30, 1946 in Damascus VA to Russell and Anne Barker. She was a member of the last graduating class of Damascus High School, 1964. Also, a member of Damascus Church of Christ, Railroad, Ave. She loved being a member of the Ladies Aide group at church. She spent her working years in the bookkeeping and administrative assistant field.
Janet loved spending time with her sister, Sandi in Florida. She loved the beach, warm weather, and all the crab legs she could eat. She loved supporting her children and grandchildren in all their endeavors and activities. Before her decline in health, she loved shopping and going out to eat with family. In her later years, she enjoyed spending her time shopping online and keeping up with friends and family through social media. One of her greatest joys was becoming a grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is preceded in death by her father, Russell Barker; mother, Anne Barker Vannoy; step-father, Robert Vannoy; brothers, Bill Barker and Jackie Barker; sister, Sandra Barker Parker
She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Neal Ragan, daughters, Betsy (Jeff) Fritz; Robin (Billy) Dixon. Step-daughters, Regina (Jim) Taggart and Sonia Ragan; grandchildren, Lauren (Jared) Sauls, Nova Segreti, Reed Dixon, Matthew Fritz, Andrew Fritz, and Allie Dixon; great-grandchildren, Everly Sauls, Eli Sauls; a special niece, Jamie Barker and nephew, Benjamin Barker; mother-in-law, Belle Ragan; sisters-in-law, Judy Barker, Pat (Pat) Puett, and Peggy May; brother-in-law, Steve Parker; along with several loved nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to Margie Barker Owens, her niece and care-taker and to MSA Home Health and Hospice for their care in her last days and to her hospice nurse, Pearl Roe.
A visitation will be held at 1:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, January 15, 2023 at Frost Funeral Home. A graveside service to follow at Sunset Memorial Park with speaker Jeff Fritz officiating. Those wishing to attend the graveside are asked to meet at the funeral home by 2:45 P.M. to go in procession.
Friends may call on the family at anytime at the Ragan household.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital Research, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN, 38105.
