James William “Slim” Fleenor, 84, of Abingdon, Va., passed away on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at Johnston Memorial Hospital.
James was a lifelong resident of Washington County, Va., and retired from VDOT after 32 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Bascom Fleenor and Mary Elizabeth Cox Fleenor; his wife, Virginia Burke Fleenor; son, Wm. Joe “Bill” Fleenor, Sr.; sister, Maxie Leonard; and brothers, Charles L. “Pete” Fleenor, Cleason Fleenor and Jackie Fleenor.
Survivors include his daughter, Barbara Fleenor; sons, Harold Lee Fleenor, Sr. and James “Rick” Fleenor and wife Peggy; seven grandchildren; sister, Mandy Hearl; brothers, Curtis Fleenor, Robert Hubert Fleenor, Sr. and Kyle Fleenor; several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at Forest Hills Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Townsend, Ethan Cox, Evan Cox, Jason Mumpower, Larry Mumpower and Jamie McGlothlin. Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Cox, Frankie Rutter, Mike Gill, Danny Gill and Mike Hale.
