James S. “Jay” Johnson, 85, of Abingdon passed away Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Jay was born February 25, 1938, in Pikeville, Kentucky to the late Kenneth and Stella Johnson. He was employed at Abingdon Wholesale Plumbing and Electric for over 30 years. Jay was a workaholic and went to work for Clineholder in Elizabethton, Tennessee after his retirement from Abingdon Wholesale Plumbing. He enjoyed golfing, skiing, and bowling. Jay was a faithful member of Abingdon Church of Christ.
In addition to his parents, Jay was preceded in death by one sister, Ernestine Collins.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Earnestine Johnson; two sons, Greg Johnson and Stephen Johnson and wife Angie; one brother, Art Johnson. Jay is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held Saturday, September 30, 2023, from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. at Abingdon Church of Christ. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 P.M. at the Abingdon Church of Christ with Minister Nathan Liddell officiating. Interment will follow in Knollkreg Memorial Park.
The men of the Abingdon Church of Christ will serve as pallbearers.
