James (Jimmy) Shortt




Taylor’s Valley, Virginia


James (Jimmy) Shortt passed away peacefully at his home in Taylors Valley, Virginia after a long illness.


Jimmy was born July 17, 1952. He was preceded in death by his parents James S. Shortt and Freida M. (Swift) Shortt, Stepmother Mary R. Shortt, sisters Barbara J. (Shortt) Buchanan, and Rose Mary (Shortt) Marshall.


He was a member of the Taylors Valley Church of Christ and a proud U.S. Army veteran. He will be fondly remembered as a friend to all he met and someone who never knew a stranger.


He is survived by his wife Sharon Nelson Shortt of Taylors Valley, his sister Margaret (David) McLeod of North Carolina, brother Tommy (Robin) Necessary of Abingdon, Va, sister Susie Dotson of Taylors Valley, Va, stepchildren Ronnie Sneed and Angie Page, and several nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. He was a very proud Uncle.


Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life at 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at the Taylors Valley Church of Christ.


In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to The American Cancer Society.


Mountain Laurel Cremation Services is honored to serve the family of Mr. James (Jimmy) Shortt.
