James "Jim" Jones passed away peacefully at Johnston Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at the age of 98. A resident of Damascus, Va, Jim was born on April 23, 1927, in War, WV., to the late Thomas and Hannah Jones.
Jim was a lifelong member of Abingdon Baptist Church and an active member of the Denton-Foil Sunday School Class. He devoted many days to working auctions and sales with Meade Realty and gave his time generously as a volunteer at the Washington County Fairgrounds. His joy for life was deeply rooted in his love for family and the cherished bond he shared with his late wife of 70 years, Beatrice Jones. He found happiness in farming, gardening, and fishing, and he will fondly be remembered by many for his gift of storytelling and his ever-present sense of humor. His favorite places to spend time was on the porch overlooking his Breezy Hills Farm or the family vacation home in Sunset Beach, NC.
Jim left a great legacy to cherish his memory including his daughter Reda Jones; granddaughter, Hannah Bush (Bart), grandson, Nathan Farmer; one great-granddaughter, Madelyn; three great-grandsons, Braylen, Isaac, and Emory; three bonus great-grandchildren, Gavin, Marley, and Jay; a special niece, Patsy Aker (Jimmy); and a special nephew, Keith James (Sue).
Jim was proceeded in death by his wife, Beatrice Jones, and their infant daughters, Maricia Jan and Teresa Cheryl Jones; parents, Thomas and Hannah Jones; his two brothers, Thomas “Junior” Jones, and David Jones; and five sisters, Virginia James, Vivian Anderson, Dorothy “Dot” Goodman, Mildred Minnick DeBord, and June Smith.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Frost Funeral Home Chapel from 12-2pm. Committal services will immediately follow at Knollkreg Memorial Park at 2:30pm with Pastor Bill Bryan officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Abingdon Baptist Church.
Frost Funeral Home and Cremation Services is honored to serve the family of Mr. James "Jim" Jones.
