James “Jim” Douglas Hughes, Jr., 67, of Bristol, Va., passed away on Monday, October 11, 2021, at Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Jim was born in Bristol, Tenn., and made his home in the Knoxville, Tenn., area for several years. He was retired from the Department of Interior where he worked as a hydrologist for 37 years. Jim loved his job and was dedicated to improving the environment, he could be referred to as a steward of the Earth. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fly fishing, tennis, backpacking and hiking. Jim enjoyed his annual horse racing trips and University of Tennessee sports. He loved spending time with his family. Jim touched the lives of all those he came into contact with, he had many friends and was a great friend to many.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Douglas Hughes, Sr.; and several aunts and uncles.
Survivors include his mother, Evelyn R. Hughes and his brother, Kenneth Eugene Hughes with whom Jim shared a special bond over the years. He is also survived by numerous friends that he cherished dearly.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Friday, October 15, 2021, at Frost Funeral Home. A procession will follow to Knollkreg Memorial Park for a graveside service with Pastor Scott Price officiating.
His cousins and friends will serve as pallbearers.
