James “Jay” Edwin Self, 74, a proud veteran of the United States Army, passed from this life on June 23, 2022 at Johnston Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Self was born March 14, 1948 to the late James and Virgie Roark Self in Abingdon, VA.
Jay was a lifelong resident of Washington County, VA where he retired from Roberts Tire. He was faithful in attending services at Macedonia Church of Christ. He enjoyed being outdoors and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
Including his parents, he is preceded in death by, his loving wife Brenda Kay Self; brother, Kenny Self.
Survivors include his daughter, Pamela Kay Rock and husband Steve; son, James Self Jr. and wife Verlaunda; sister, Mary Duncan and husband Johnny; four grandchildren, Jaime Self, Brayden Self, Beth Brown and husband Clay, and 1st Lt. Lori Huff and husband Lt. Stephen Huff; two great grandchildren, Cam Brown and Madi Rose Huff; also several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Monday, June 27, 2022 at Frost Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at Frost Funeral Home with Minister Ron Musick officiating. A committal service will follow to Forest Hills Memory Gardens. The United States Army and Virginia Highlands Honor Guard will be conducting military rites.
Serving as pallbearers will be Tim Reynolds, Steve Counts, Brayden Self, Billy Jones, Rick Taylor, and Clay Brown.
Honorary Pallbearers will be, Kenny Perkins, Riley Yarber, Ray Shortridge, and the Men of Macedonia Church of Christ.
