Jackie Wayne Sweet,75, passed away peacefully Monday, September 25, 2023 at his home in Abingdon surrounded by his wife and children.
He was born September 1, 1948, in Washington County, Virginia to the late Lacy Sweet and Mary Warner. Jackie retired from Columbus-McKinnon after 47 years of service. Jackie loved time spent outside, but most of all, he adored his great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Jackie was preceded in death by two brothers Delmas and Robert “Bobby” Sweet and his faithful companion, Izzy.
Survivors include his loving wife, Ruth Sweet; son, Michael “Mike” Sweet; daughter, Melissa Collins; grandchildren, Heather Salyer and Shayna (Logan) Bishop; great-grandchildren, Harper and Ella Salyer and Mila and Brennox Bishop; brother, Willis (Dorothy) Sweet; sisters, Carol (Kenneth)Rowe, Edna Olinger, and Marie (Bud) Rowe. Jackie is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, September 28, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. at Green Springs Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Pastor Herbert Bailey officiating. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery by 1:45 P.M.
