Jackie O’Neala Isenhour Canipe

Jackie O’Neala Isenhour Canipe, age 83, loving and adored wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away at home on May 8, 2019.

Jackie was born in Hickory, NC, on July 13, 1935. She was preceded in death by her parents, Coy and Ida Mae Starnes Isenhour, sister Linda Marie Isenhour, and brothers Tony Isenhour, Earl Isenhour, and Bobby Isenhour.

Jackie is survived by her husband of 61 years, Earl Canipe; son, Michael Canipe and wife Ann Campbell Canipe of Canton, GA; daughter, Linda Canipe Hagy of Abingdon, VA; grandchildren, Melinda and Matthew Hagy of Abingdon, VA, Jennifer Kelly and husband Travis Kelly of Canton, GA, and Kelly Canipe of Kennesaw, GA; and great-grandchild, Evan Kelly of Canton, GA; brothers, Coy Isenhour, Jr., of Catawba, NC, and Ricky Isenhour of Hickory, NC; sisters, Shirley (Boots) Elliott of Newton, NC, Doris Dameron of Taylorsville, NC, Beverly Underwood of Hickory, NC, and Gloria (Dean) Moore of Hickory, NC.

Jackie was a talented basketball athlete in High School. She joined a ladies Abingdon softball team and helped them win several league titles. She enjoyed her time playing bridge in a group of her closest friends, was a very astute seamstress, and took great pleasure in bird watching and gardening.

The family would like to thank Jackie’s closest friends Ann Johnson of Abingdon, VA, Peggy Hughes of Abingdon, VA, and Linda Hackler of Andersonville, TN. Thanks also goes to Jackie’s pastor Dr. Paul Bufford, to her physician Dr. Clinton Sutherland, to her caregivers Sherry Thornburg and Brenda Bolinger, and to her therapists Betty Harrison, Tracy Yarber, and Sherry Aldrich.

The family will receive friends Friday, May 10, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm., at Frost Funeral Home. An additional visitation will be held Saturday, May 11, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., at the funeral home. Family and friends will then travel in procession to the Serenity Garden Mausoleum of Forest Hills Memory Gardens for an entombment service with Dr. Paul Bufford officiating. Honorary pallbearers are Wayne Campbell, Michael Canipe, Matthew Hagy, Melinda Hagy, Jennifer Kelly, Kelly Canipe, Joseph P. Johnson, Jr., and James C. Hughes.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Abingdon Bible Church at 16210 Elementary Drive, Abingdon, VA, 24210.
