Jack Richard McCrady, Jr. passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at the Bristol Hospice House.
Jack was a proud veteran, having served in the United States Coast Guard. He was also a longtime member of Green Cove Christian Church. He retired from Pittston Coal Company and the United Mine Workers, where he worked for several years in Washington, D.C. on behalf of miners. Later he started his own business, McCrady Builders.
Jack was deeply committed to his community. He faithfully served as the Mayor of Damascus for a total of 20 years and was currently serving on the Damascus Town Council. He was honored to have served on the Washington County board of supervisors. He was currently Vice Chairman of the Veteran Memorial Park Foundation of Abingdon/Washington County.
In addition to his public service, Jack was an avid fisherman and a proud member of the Washington County Bass Club. He enjoyed spending time with his many fishing buddies and could often be found on his back porch, where countless friends and neighbors stopped by to share stories and laughter. Jack was known for his devotion to Damascus and Washington County, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and service.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Connie; son, Kris and wife Danielle; daughter, Valerie; sister, Patty and husband Harvey Clark; brother, Charlie McCrady; and sister-in-law, Shelby Blevins. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Richard McCrady, Sr; his mother, Dorothy Virginia Berry; and stepfather, C.C. Cowan.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 5, 2025, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Frost Funeral Home Chapel in Abingdon, Virginia, with a funeral service to follow at 7:00 P.M. with Brother Yul Miller and Brother Harley Farmer officiating. A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, October 6, 2025, at Sunset Memorial Park in Damascus, Virginia with Military Honors. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:45 P.M.
