Irene Mae Scyphers Henegar, 90, passed away Thursday, August 15, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born January 13, 1934, in Abingdon, Virginia to the late Ernest and Ethel Kennedy Scyphers. Irene loved flowers and gardening and had a special place in her heart for children. She made the best cole slaw and cubed steak. Most of her career was spent working in nursing homes. When she was able, she attended services at Heavenly Rest Free Will Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Buckley Henegar; daughters Reva Jean and Wanda Counts, son Donald Wayne Henegar, son-in-law Randall Nunley, four brothers, and one sister.
She is survived by a daughter, Brenda Nunley; a sister Mary McCracken; six grandchildren: Donald Henegar, Michael Henegar, Stacey Burke (Jesse), Sharon Nunley (Jason), Christina Trivett (Brian), and Michael Cody Counts; seven great-grandchildren: Austin Burke, Kamen Wise, Brayden Wise, Caleb Trivett, Toryn Burke, Kayge Burke, and Drayko Burke; son-in-law, Michael Counts. She is also survived by a special canine companion, Fe Fe, and several nieces and nephews.
The family welcomes friends on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, from 12:00 PM-1:00 PM at Frost Funeral Home. A service will follow at 1:00 PM in the chapel at Frost Funeral Home with her grandson, Minister Donald Henegar officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Grandsons will serve as pall bearers.
The family would like to thank Caris Hospice, especially Brandy and Lynn, for their loving care during Mrs. Henegar’s illness.
