Homer “Pidge” Buchanan




Homer “Pidge” Buchanan, passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at Johnson Memorial Hospital.

Pidge was born on January 7, 1945 to the late Curn and Mamie Buchanan in Saltville, VA.

He was a well-known resident of Washington County who was a friend to all. He served his country in the United States Navy. Pidge owned and operated Buchanan Paint & Decorating Store for over twenty years. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed being on the golf course, pulling for Alabama football, Duke basketball, and being with his K-9 companion Hydi.

Including his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Bill and Jack Buchanan; one sister, Helen Mitchell.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Glenda Buchanan; one son, Jeff Roark (Kim); two grandchildren who were the light of his life, Caleb Roark and Courtney Roark; also, many nieces and nephews; special telephone lady, Shirley Widener.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at Frost Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at Knollkreg Memorial Park with Pastor Junior Gobble officiating. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:45 A.M.

Serving as pallbearers will be, Tim Worley, Wayne McCall, Joe Jordan, Ed Craig, Mark Sutherland, and Shawn Roark.

Honorary pallbearers will be, Harold Johnson, Benny Bordwine, Tommy Worley, Rob Smeltzer, Ms. Ellie and all former employees of Buchanan Paint & Decorating Store.

Flowers will be accepted as well as donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
