Hazel Lee Adams Hicks, 92, passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2023, at Commonwealth Senior Living surrounded by her daughters.
Hazel was born in Welch, West Virginia, to the late Dave and Fannie Adams, but lived most of her life in Abingdon, Virginia. She was a graduate of Marion High School, where she met her late husband, Lenford M. “Imp” Hicks. They raised five daughters and were married for 56 years. She was a member of Rosedale Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, two brothers and by an infant daughter, Patricia Ann Hicks.
She is survived by five daughters; Linda (Mickey) Roseberry of High Point NC, Iva (Walter “Jim”) White Jr., of Meadowview VA, Sandra (Dan) Johnson of Abingdon VA, Beth White of Emory VA and Connie (Charles) Moffatt of Bristol, TN. She is survived by 12 Grandchildren; Beverly (Steve) Gaulden, Trey (Samantha) White, Michael (Samantha) Roseberry, Jason (Amanda) White, Matthew (Katrina) Roseberry, Jessica (Brian) Deal, Curtis (Allison) Price, Justin Johnson, Rebecca Roseberry, Sarah Beth White (Scotty Almany), Carri (Cullen) Barker and Emily White, several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by special friends Dr. Thomas and Vickie Mitoraj of Bristol, Virginia, Joyce Millsap of Abingdon, Virginia and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Commonwealth Senior Living and MSL Hospice for their compassionate care during Hazel’s stay. Hazel had a long and meaningful life and will be missed.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. June 01, 2023 at Rosedale Baptist Church Cemetery for family and close friends with Dr. Tom Mitoraj officiating. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:45 A.M.
In lieu of flowers, it was Hazel’s wish that donations be made in her memory to Shriners Children’s Hospital or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
