Harrison James., Jr

Harrison R. James, Jr., age 99, went to be with the Lord Monday, April 1, 2019, at Grace Health Care. He was born March 31, 1920, in Washington County, Virginia, a son of the late Harrison R. James, Sr. and Ora Palmer James. He lived most of his life in Abingdon and was a World War II veteran, having served in the United States Army from 1943-1946. He was a foreman at Pet Milk Company in Abingdon for 20 years and retired from Enterprise Fabricators after 20 years of service. He was a farmer and loved to sell his produce at the Farmers Market until he was 92. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved the outdoors. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Bristol, Virginia. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ethel Dukes James; his second wife, Wilma S. James; his son, H. R. James, III; two brothers, Oscar James and Calvin James; and two sisters, Mary Penoyer and Frances Odum. Survivors include two daughters, Susan Aleshire and husband John of Luray, VA, and Ellen James of Abingdon; three grandchildren, Carla Bidwell, Mollie Aleshire, and Emily Aleshire; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2019, at 2:00 P.m. at Frost Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Austin Cook and Rev. Jerry A. Eggers officiating. Burial will follow at Knollkreg Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 P.M. until time of the funeral service. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
