Graham Michael “Mickey” Newman, age 75, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at his home.
He was born November 9, 1942, in Pulaski, Virginia, a son of the late Graham E. Newman and Mildred Laffoon Newman. He lived in Washington County, VA for 35 years. He was very involved in the community, including serving as mayor and town manager of Bluefield, VA, city manager of Norton, VA, and town manager of Abingdon, VA. Newman served for 25 years in his position as town manager of Abingdon—the longest tenured manager. He loved his family and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was of the Presbyterian faith.
Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Ann Newman of Abingdon, VA; two sons, Michael Newman of Hanover, PA, and Michael Roark of Abingdon, VA; two daughters, Jennifer Newman of Boston, MA, and Donna Arnold of Meadowview, VA. Other survivors include six grandchildren—Jonathan Newman, Ben Newman, Tyler Newman, Chelsey Feeny, Derek Arnold, and Seth Roark, and several great grandchildren.
In keeping with Mickey’s wishes, a graveside service will be conducted Friday, June 15, 2018, at 11:00 A.M. at Knollkreg Memorial Park in Abingdon, VA with Michael Roark and Pastor Jimmy Ellis officiating.
Flowers as well as donations to the Kidney Foundation will be accepted by the family.
