George Lee Wright, 70, of Abingdon, Va., passed away at his home on Saturday, October 16, 2021.
He was born to the late James and Frances Wright of Elk Creek, Va., on March 10, 1951. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Lisettia and Ted Hines.
George graduated from Virginia Tech in 1973. He served as assistant county supervisor for Farmer’s Home Administration and later as a county supervisor for A.S.C.S. George was a member of Abingdon United Methodist Church for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Bryant Rudolph Wright; his daughter, Leah Elizabeth Wright of Bristol; brother, Woodrow “Woody” Wright and Lynda of Elk Creek, Va.; brothers-in-law, Tony Rudolph and Barbara of Rural Retreat, Va. and Jack Rudolph and Sammey of Lewistown, NC; nephews, Mike Hines and Lori of Greensboro, NC, David Hines of NC, Jordan Wright and Tayler of Elk Creek, Va., Charlie Rudolph and Sara of Rural Retreat, Va.; nieces, Laura Davis and Jeremy of Salem, Va., Amy Maloskey and Joseph of Rural Retreat, Va.; several cousins; great nieces and great nephews.
Visitation will be from 10 to 10:45 a.m., on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at Abingdon United Methodist Church. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m., Wednesday at the church with Rev. Paul Seay officiating. Interment will be held at 3 p.m., on Wednesday at Comers Rock Cemetery in Elk Creek, Va. Family and friends will gather at the cemetery at 2:45 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Jackie Ward, Jason Ward, Richard Sutherland, Larry Corvin, Jeremy Davis and Jordan Wright.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 50 St Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105.
