George Henry “G.H.” Andis

George Henry Andis “G.H.”, 83, of the Smith Creek community of Washington County, Va., passed away on Saturday, March 10, 2018. Mr. Andis passed away peacefully in the loving care of Wellmont Hospice House of Bristol, Tenn.

He was born on March 21, 1934, in Washington County, Va. The first child of the late Edgar Newton Andis “Ed” and Ruby Opal White Andis. He lived the majority of his life in the Smith Creek community of Washington County, Va. Mr. Andis was Sub Contractor of the VA Highway Dept. for approx. 10 years, and a Truck Driver for Lemon Transport of Bristol Va. which later became Superior Carriers of Kingsport Tenn., G. H. Andis retired from truck driving on September 30, 1994, and then he continued with his passion, which was farming.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Glenda Mae Cox; and his brother-in-law, Earl Alonzoe Cox.

G. H. Andis had two children, Gary Allen Andis and wife, Dianne Andis of Bristol Va. and Amy Rochell Andis and wife, Mary Gazaway of Bristol Tenn.; three grandchildren, George Anthony (Tony) Andis, Mark Allen Andis, and Kadin Storm Castle; and one great grandchild, Damian Storm Castle.

Mr. Andis had multiple brothers and sisters, He is survived by, Joseph Andis and wife, Nanabee, Edgar Eugene Andis and fiancée, Norma, Phyllis Andis Haile and husband, Harry Baya, Fred Andis and wife, JoAnn, Nancy Aker and husband, John, Bobby Andis and wife, Karen, and Lisa Andis and husband, Kemery Street.

In addition to his family, sister in law/caregiver/friend, Sue Cox; aunt, Frances White, aunt, Daisy Wampler and many numerous wonderful loving cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.

The G. H. Andis family wishes to thank, Wellmont Hospice House of Bristol Tenn. (All Staff and Volunteers): Wellmont Cancer Institute of Bristol Va. (Dr. Musgrave, infusion center nurses and staff, which he looked forward to each month to see them and looked at them as family): Pulmonology of Bristol Tenn. (Dr. Gabriel Zaietta) Bristol Regional Medical Center Staff and volunteers.

Pallbearers will be Jason Mumpower, Woodrow Brewer, Tony Andis, Mark Andis, Kadin Castle, Blake Andis, Wade Andis, Mike “Hippie” Hale and Scott Creasy. Honorary pallbearer will be Pastor Larry “P.T.” Glover.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at Forest Hills Memory Gardens, with the Rev. Jerry A. Eggers officiating. Family and friends are asked to gather at the cemetery by 10:45 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the Andis family is requesting donations be made to Lung Cancer Research in memory of G.H. Andis.
