Gene Miller

Abingdon, Va.

Gene Miller, age 72, a well known resident of Washington County, Virginia passed away on Monday, July 26, 2021 at the Johnston Memorial Hospital after a brief Illness.



He was born in Christiansburg, Virginia and was the son of the late Garvice and Eliza Miller.


Gene was a graduate of Abingdon High School in 1968 and started his career at Kroger’s in Abingdon and worked for almost 30 years in this position. Upon retirement he started Pools & Spas and owned and operated this business in Abingdon for 30 years. While he was working in the Pool Industry he worked with many Funeral Homes and Cemeteries by opening and closing the graves for friends and families in the area. He was a member of the Highpoint Baptist Church and a member of the Abingdon Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the Kazim Shrine of Roanoke and a Life member of The Goldwing Road Riders Association.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Garvice and Eliza Miller and infant brother, Dale Miller; father and mother in law, Fred and Billie Jo Seymore.


He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Martha Seymore Miller of Abingdon; one loving daughter, Karen Trent and husband Russell of Meadowview, Virginia; one loving son, Todd Miller and wife Brittany and daughter Amelia of Abingdon.


Funeral services for Mr. Gene Miller will be conducted at 8:00 P.M. on Friday, July 30,2021 at the Highpoint Baptist Church, 18255 Limestone Drive, Meadowview, Virginia with Pastor Robby Coggins and Rev. Jerry A. Eggers officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. on Friday at the Highpoint Church until the time of the service. For friends that would like to listen to the service without attending in the Church Sanctuary, they may park on the parking lot of the Church and listen to the service on the FM Station. Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday July 31, 2021 at the Knollkreg Memorial Park in Abingdon, Virginia and family and friends will gather by 10: 45 on Saturday.


Honorary Pallbearers will be past employees of Kroger’s and the friends that lived on Celebrity Lane and his High Point Church Family and all past and present friends.


In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude PL, Memphis, TN. 38105-9959.
