Gary Alfred Meadows, 67, passed away Sunday, February 18, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born April 8, 1956, to the late Parlie and Ellen (Owens) Meadows. Gary worked for Jewell Smokeless for 36 years, retiring as a mine superintendent. After retirement, Gary relocated from Oakwood, Virginia to Abingdon, where he has lived for the last 10 years. He loved to hunt and fish with his father, and the bond they shared was unbreakable. Above all, Gary loved being called “Papa”.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Lacy (Potter) Meadows; son, Gary Alexander “Alex” Meadows; sister, Diana Hale and brother Larry Edwards.
Gary is survived by his daughter, Erin Meadows (James Stevens); four grandchildren, whom he adored, Charlotte, Alexander “Xander”, James “Jamie” and Ellen “Ellie”; four sisters, Lana Ward (James), Connie McCoy (Richard), Janey Sanders (Jerry), and Gail Smith (Keith); several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 24, 2024 from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. at Frost Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at 2:30 P.M. with Reverend Jason Dunn officiating. Those wishing to attend the graveside are asked to convene at the Mausoleum by 2:15 P.M.
