Updated: Jul 13, 2023

Abingdon, Virginia

Francis “Frank” J. Obranovic of Abingdon, Virginia was freed of his earthly body June 15, 2023, while sleeping. His family is in celebration of him receiving his clear mind and new body in heaven.

Frank was born September 21, 1934, and was raised in Detroit, Michigan where he began and dedicated his life to the Catholic faith. He was proceeded in death by his parents Michael and Anne LasLovich-Obranovic, sister, brother as well as several aunts, uncles, and other family members of Michigan.

Frank proudly served in the US Army during peace time and during the Vietnam War. He served as a drill sergeant, sharpshooter, tank operator and a trainer for those preparing for artillery battle. Frank served two tours in Germany, he also earned several high-ranking awards and metals during this time.

Frank has lived in Michigan, Kentucky, Delaware, North Carolina, and California before making Abingdon, Virginia his home in 1977. He was well known in the Abingdon/Washington County areas for Frank’s Home Repair where he showcased his many talents to include his expertise in plumbing and electrical work. He retired in his 80’s, and even after retiring, he continued to receive phone calls asking for service calls. He loved his work and the people in his community.

Frank will be missed beyond measure by his family, friends, and community for his kindness, willingness to serve others, as well as his contagious laughter, smile, and outgoing personality-he never met a stranger and could hold a conversation with anyone. He continuously treated everyone with the upmost respect. He loved spending time with his family, enjoyed NASCAR, all sports both local and professional, fishing, camping, loved music and dancing, and of course, mowing his yard. He was an avid supporter of local events, local schools, and St. Judes. He could be found each morning before and after retirement at Chicken N Little in Abingdon drinking and topping off everyone’s coffee.

We would like to extend a very special, heartfelt Thank YOU to those at NHC of Bristol who loved and cared for Frank like family. May you find comfort knowing you make a difference every day and may Frank’s smile and love be in your hearts always.

His daughter, Tami Obranovic will be hosting a drop-in celebration filled with desserts and live music on Sunday, 16 July 2023, at The Barns at Chip Ridge (14235 Branch Street Abingdon, VA) from 1:30 P.M until 3:30 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, Frank would be delighted if contributions could stay local in his honor helping children of Washington County Virginia
