Abingdon, VA
Floyd Hiter Fields, age 85, passed away on March 23, 2023. Floyd was born in Abingdon, Virginia on February 7, 1938 to the late Charles and Vesta Harrison Fields. He was a good hearted man who was a hard worker and nature lover. Floyd worked from daylight to dark for his whole life. He worked as a foreman for Coles Nursery in Bristol, VA for over 40 years afterword he then worked for Buck Oil Company until his retirement. He also enjoyed volunteering his time for the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources and Brumley Gap Fire Department.
In addition to his parents, Floyd is proceeded in death by his first wife, Betty Jane Lilly Fields and second wife, Wilma Childress Fields; brothers, Thomas Fields, Allen Fields and wife Eileen, Shuler Fields, John Fields and James Reece Fields; sisters, Lonnie Farmer, Burt Fields Davis, Martha Fields Reynolds and Hazel Fields Clark; son, Bobby Lee Fields Sr; and grandson, Jimmy Grant Wright.
Left to cherish Floyd’s memory are his children, Judy Fields Gogan (Teddy), Wayne Fields (Joann), David Fields (Libby), and Harry Fields (Amy); several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews: and a very special granddaughter who helped so much with his care after he raised her like his own daughter, Teresa Honaker (Greg).
The family would also like to say a special thank you to the staff of Ballad Health Hospice for the care and love they have shown their family.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. Sunday, March 26, 2023, at Frost Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2 P.M. Monday, March 27, 2023 at Frost Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry A. Eggers officiating, a committal service will follow in the Fields Family Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons and great grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Taylor, Bill Martin, Gene Martin, Ben Yarber, Dan Hall, Brian Cannon, Otis Arnold, David Buck and the members of Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources and the Brumley Gap Fire Department.
