Estel Eugene Anderson “Gene” Anderson, 75, went to his heavenly home on January 17, 2025.
Eugene loved the Lord, his family, church family, friends and neighbors. He was very outgoing and never met a stranger. He was at his happiest when he was cooking for family gatherings and church fellowship and making his peanut butter candy for others. Eugene proudly served his country in the United States Army. Upon his retirement as a tractor and trailer driver, he enjoyed fishing and woodworking. In 1985, Eugene and Mona were married and started their journey together in Northern Virginia, before moving to Abingdon twenty- six years ago.
Eugene was preceded in death by his father Jearl Puckett, mother Nina Lee Anderson, grandparents Gobel and Bell Rose, brother Garland Anderson, and sister Patricia Brockoff.
He is survived by his loving wife Mona, his precious daughter Michele Knupp and her husband Michael, along with his family, Ronnie Anderson (Drema), Daris Anderson (Peggy), Danny Anderson (Kathy), Rebecca Rose (Randy), Carolyn Mitchell (Chris), Mardy Clawson, several aunts, uncles, nephews, and nieces. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Linda Chaney, Veronica Keene and Rita Matney (Don).
The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, in the Frost Funeral Home Chapel in Abingdon, Virginia. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at 11:30 A.M. in the Frost Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jason Dunn officiating. Entombment will follow at Greenhills Memorial Gardens, 11800 Gov George C. Perry Highway, Cedar Bluff, Virginia 24609.
Charlie Wood, Charles Elmore, Randy Rose, Joseph Rose, Luke Anderson, Clay Mitchell, Brandon Matney and Chris Childress will serve as pallbearers.
David Knupp, David Estep, William and Teresa Page, D.A. Anderson, Chris Anderson, Andrew Sheppard, Channing Mitchell, Noah Anderson, Josh Street, Meldon Brockoff Jr, and the men of the Holston Valley Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Our family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. William M. Handy and his staff, the Washington County Fire and Rescue Squad, Bristol Regional Medical Center, 4th floor west staff, Ballad Hospice House Staff, Amedysis Home Health, Nicewonder and Leonard Cancer Center and Elite Hospice.
We cannot begin to express our gratitude for the kindness and compassion that has been shown to Eugene. We have appreciated every prayer, visit, meal, call and card we have received.
