Elaine Gregor Everest passed away peacefully on April 26, 2025, in Abingdon, Virginia. Born on March 19, 1952, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Elaine lived a life marked by creativity, devotion, and a deep love for her family, friends and community.

Elaine graduated from Robert Morris University with a bachelor’s degree before embarking on a successful corporate career in her hometown of Pittsburgh, PA. Those who know Elaine were lucky enough to hear the romantic story of how she met David Everest, the love of her life, on a bus ride during a Pittsburgh snowfall. Their early whirlwind romance evolved into a beautiful, steadfast, enduring marriage of 45 years. Their love story was one of deep partnership and mutual admiration—a bond that remained strong through every chapter of their lives together. Together they traveled all over the world and called several East coast towns "home" during David's lifelong career in the coal industry.

In November 1989, Elaine welcomed her son Benjamin Parker Everest into the world—a moment she often described as the most meaningful of her life. She cherished motherhood and poured boundless love into raising Ben. Her pride in him was immeasurable.

In January 2004, she opened Persnickety, a women’s boutique that quickly became a beloved fixture in downtown Abingdon. For nearly two decades, Persnickety stood as a testament to Elaine’s impeccable taste and entrepreneurial spirit. The boutique was more than just a store; it was an extension of Elaine herself—a place filled with warmth, style, and connection.

Elaine was admired not only for her flair for fashion and design but also for her generous heart and vibrant presence. She had an extraordinary gift for bringing people together—especially during the holidays when she would host unforgettable gatherings filled with delicious food and joyful celebration. Her cooking was legendary among those who knew her best.

Elaine is survived by her son Benjamin Everest and his fiancée Eden Bowen; her sister Lynette Funk; and her brother Robert Gregor. She was preceded in death by her parents Jennie and John Gregor, her brother John Alan Gregor Jr., and her husband David Everest.

A woman of faith, Elaine attended St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Abingdon during Ben’s childhood years and took part in various leadership and volunteer efforts within the church community. Her Christian faith guided many aspects of her life and brought her great comfort.

Elaine will be remembered for her elegance, generosity, creativity, and unwavering devotion to those she loved. Her legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched—with style, grace, and an open heart. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
