Edgar Eugene “Gene” Andis, age 80, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 28, 2021, at home with his family by his side.
Born and raised in Smith Creek, he lived his entire life in Washington County, Va.
After retiring from Westinghouse, Gene pursued is passion of farming fulltime and as his favorite namesake, “Pawpaw Gene.” Gene began working on his family farm at the young age of 8, to which he continued for many years until Alzheimer’s made an unwelcomed appearance in his life.
Gene is preceded in death by his son Terry Mark Andis and his parents, Edgar Newton Andis and Ruby Opal Andis.
Gene leaves behind a legacy of love and hard work in his two beloved grandchildren, Dylan Blake Andis and Kori Grace Andis. With Dylan and Kori’s first words, Gene became known as “Pawpaw Gene” and he carried that name proudly for all of his years. Gene exemplified a grandfather’s love every time he spoke, as his pride and joy endured fervently in his grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, Blake (Kim) Andis, Wade Andis, grandchildren, Dylan and Kori Andis and many sibling brothers and sisters.
The boys would like to Thank Betty Landis and Deena Randolph for the amazing care, love and sharing of God’s word to our dad. We would also like to Thank Dr. Litton and Caris Healthcare (Miranda, Ashley, Tommy Joe) for their kindness and compassion shown to our dad during his difficult struggle.
A private funeral service will be held on March 30, 2021 at the Forest Hills Memory Garden at 11:00 A.M.
