Dwight Sherlock Kimberlin, age 81, went to be with the Lord Friday, January 21, 2022, at Advent Hospital in Sebring, Florida.
He was born December 14, 1940, in Russell County, Virginia, a son of the late Dwight Scott Kimberlin and Maggie Lena Lambert Kimberlin. He lived most of his life in the Abingdon and Bristol areas and was a 1959 graduate of Greendale High School. He was a Vietnam veteran who faithfully served his country in the United States Army from 1964-1966. He retired from Sprint Telephone Company with 40 years of service. He was a faithful member of Greendale Chapel and served as a Greeter and Worker in Vacation Bible School for many years. He was a humble man with a great sense of humor who was very proud to be an American and of service to his country.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three sisters, Beatrice Hagy, Eveleen Fraley, and Evelyn Hagy.
He is survived by his wife of 54 ½ years, Sue Riley Kimberlin; two daughters, Angela Burge and husband Keith and Pamela Kimberlin; one sister, Bernice Keesling; three brothers, David Kimberlin and wife Myra, Donald Kimberlin and wife Leah, and Wayne Kimberlin and wife Cheryl; four grandchildren, Benjamin Burge, Christopher Burge, Sean Burge, and Brittany Burge; several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
Graveside services will be held Sunday, January 30, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Rev. Jerry A. Eggers and Keith Burge officiating. Family and friends are asked to gather at the cemetery by 1:50 p.m. Men of Greendale Chapel will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to Greendale Chapel, P. O. Box 1314, Abingdon, Va., 24212 in memory and honor of Sherlock Kimberlin.
