Meadowview, Virginia
Donna Minor, 79, passed away unexpectedly at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon,
Virginia.
She was born in Jonesville, Virginia to the late Veach Moses McPherson and Jerusha
Olive Welch McPherson.
We take comfort knowing she is wrapped in the comforting, peaceful arms of Jesus and has now been reunited with so many cherished family members including late husband, Jim Price, five sisters and a brother.
Donna had a green thumb and could grow anything. She loved flowers and plants. If she visited
your home, just know she checked your plants when you weren’t looking, and would surreptitiously offer watering or sunlight advice.
Donna loved “real” country music. Waylon Jennings, George Jones and Don Williams were
among her very favorites! Oh, how she loved NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt! She often
referred to him by just Dale, like he was a member of the family.
Donna’s life took her through several careers, but her favorite and most rewarding was the time spent working as a private duty care provider. She truly loved and cared for her patients. Donna’s very essence was love tempered with a righteous amount of McPherson grit. If she loved you, she loved fiercely. If she didn’t like you- well, you were likely to be disliked just as fiercely. Minding her tongue was not something she was known for - nor would she want it to be! Her frankness was sometimes off putting, but you never ever had to wonder where you stood with her.
Of all the titles she carried throughout her life, her most beloved was “Maudie.” Her
Grandchildren and their friends called her Maudie. It started out as Maw D, but quickly
morphed into Maudie. Even though she was a proud mother, her grandchildren were her
everything! She loved each of them so fervently and completely. She was proud of every
accomplishment and was so proud to be their grandmother. They will be lost for a longtime
without her. She was instrumental in helping to raise each of them and Donya and Robin could not have done it without her never ending support and help.
Left to cherish Donna’s precious memory are her loving husband, Ken Minor of Meadowview,
VA; sister Connie McPherson of Lancaster, SC; brother Veach McPherson (Brenda) of Jonesville, VA; son Chris Frazier (Lisa) of Dayton, OH; daughter Robin Shattuck Hoskins (Tim) of Middlesboro. KY; daughter Donya Shattuck Noe of Knoxville, TN; son Michael Shattuck (Amy) of Tazewell, TN; her beloved grandchildren, Tanner Hoskins of Pineville, KY, Sydney Noe of Knoxville, TN, Tilly Hoskins of Middlesboro, KY; her precious great-granddaughter, Eleanor Hoskins of Union, MO. Donna leaves behind many dear nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Donna considered Glen Ramsey and Angel Cunningham family as well.
The family would like to thank Johnston Memorial Hospital, especially Dr. Dakota Robertson, for the exceptional care provided to Donna. Each and every care provider and staff we encountered were the epitome of excellence, kindness, professionalism, and sincerity. Thank you for every care and kindness you have shown our family.
Per Donna’s wishes, there will be a family only graveside service with her nephew, Tracy
McPherson, officiating. Her cremated remains will be interred in the McPherson Family
Cemetery in Jonesville VA. (On Veachie McPherson’s farm)
