Dixie Ann Dunn McCracken

Updated: Jan 31

Damascus, Virginia

Dixie Ann Dunn McCracken, 84, passed away January 24, 2024 at Abingdon Health and Rehab.  She was born in Washington County Virginia on February 13, 1940, a daughter of the late Robert Roland Dunn and Hattie Thelma Blevins Dunn.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Isaac McCracken; three brothers, Roland Dunn, Edd Dunn, and Rance Dunn; four sisters, Teen Buckley, Juanita Thompson, Catherine Vannoy, and Eileen Stewart.

Dixie was raised in the Extract Community of Damascus, VA. Although she and Isaac never had children of their own, there were a multitude of nieces and nephews that were blessed to be part of her life for she was a wonderful and loving aunt.

Dixie married Isaac and moved north to Maryland where she started a job at Geico. She eventually retired back to Damascus where she remained. After returning she continued working and this included her job at Damascus Food City. She truly enjoyed working with people and collected friends easily. Those who knew her understand the laugh and smack on the back when she found something amusing.

Dixie is survived by a sister, Wilma Miller, and a brother, Harold Dunn.  She is also survived by special friend, Bob Cook, who was such a blessing to Dixie over the last several years.  They had the amazing opportunity to travel, enjoyed eating out, visiting friends in the nursing home, and going for long walks……holding hands.

The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff at Abingdon Health and Rehab for the loving and amazing care shown to Dixie and her family during her stay.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM on Saturday, January 27 at Frost Funeral Home. The funeral service will immediately follow at 12:00 PM with Pastor Jason Dunn officiating.  The committal service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at Sunset Memorial Park in Damascus, VA.

Pallbearers will be Hunter Price, Ethan Dunn, Michael Burnett, Austin Berry, Sam Rhudy, Jacob Heath, and Jack Stewart. Honorary pallbearer will be R.D. McVey and the multitude of nephews and nieces.

Frost Funeral Home and Cremation Services is honored to be serving Ms. McCracken’s family.
