Abingdon, VA
David “Pop’s” Arthur Abel, 88, passed away November 24, 2021 at Johnson City Medical Center.
Mr. Abel was a lifelong resident of Washington County. He worked at Glenrochie Country Club for over 20 years. He was of the Presbyterian faith.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Imogene Jones Abel; parents, David Alexander and Rosa Mae McCray Able; one brother, John Garrett Abel; two sisters, Lola Hutton and Idalene Abel; daughter, Carolyn Abel.
Survivors include, one daughter, Brenda Nunley and husband Raymond of Meadowview, VA; one son, Ben Abel and wife Rita of Abingdon,VA; three grandchildren, Derrick Anderson of Meadowview, VA , Jason Abel (Ashley) of Bristol, TN, Michael Abel and wife Jackie of Chapel Hill, NC; four great grandchildren, Bayleigh Abel, Phinley Abel, Ryan Roller and Amellia Ann. A special thank you to Sue “Mother Nature” Foglesong, Linda “Myrtle” Mabe, and Shirley “Hey” Matthews.
The family ask that in lieu of flowers donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude PL, Memphis TN, 38105-1942.
A graveside service will be held at 1 PM Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Rev. Paul Bufford officiating. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:45 PM.
