David Michael Browning, Jr age 60, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, December 8, 2025. David was born December 29, 1964, in Abingdon VA to the late Phyllis Davenport Browning and David M Browing, Sr. He was a hardworking man who loved gardening, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a true friend to many and will be remembered for always being available to help a friend in need.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and several aunts and uncles. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 36 years, Lisa Mutter Browning, his sons of which he was most proud, Jimmy Brown, Jr.( Tamsyn) and Caleb Browning (Holly), One precious granddaughter, Aubrey Brown. One sister, Deanna Puckett ( Eddie), one brother Brandon Browning (David), 2 nephews and many cousins 3 of which were closer than brothers, Jud Rice, Michael McCray, and Doug Mason. Many special friends, his faithful dog, Kira and his feline friends, Alex, Fred, Lil Bit, and most special fat cat Feets.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Nurse Aryn Smith of Integrated Health Concepts, the staff of Tennessee Oncology Johnson City, especially Dr. Maatouk and Nurse Candace. The staff of the Meadowview Clinic of Southwest Virginia Health Systems, especially Dr. Ortiz, Tiffany and Pam. Also the staff of Ballad Health Hospice House and Ballad Home Hospice Care, especially nurses Greg and Nicole. The family would also like to express their heartfelt appreciation for all the thoughts, prayers, and assistance from family and friends. Your thoughtfulness will never be forgotten.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 4 p.m. at Smyth Chapel, 30119 Smyth Chapel Road, Meadowview Virginia with Pastor Nathan Leonard officiating. A time of visitation and fellowship will be held immediately after the service. Honorary pallbearers will be Shane Tilson, Jud Rice, Mike McCray, Doug Mason, Glen Faris, Butch Foster, Sam McCready, Mike Norris, Mark Trogdon, Eric Collins, Jamie Davis, Rex Sproles, Jim Smith, Larry Walters, Keith Gentry, and Randy Breedlove.
