David Gilmer Nunley


David Gilmer Nunley Sr., 71, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 3rd, 2025.


He was born on October 27th, 1953, to the late Fitch and Audrey Nunley.


David started working as an orderly at Johnson Memorial Hospital and then worked diligently for Valley Dale Meat Packing for 18 years before retiring. He was a hardworking, kind-hearted man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life, particularly in spending time outdoors. Above all, David cherished the moments spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him immense pride and joy.


In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his brother, Wiley Nunley; two grandsons, David Nunley III and Brandon Hammonds; and his great-granddaughter, Davina Walker.


David is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Theresa Nunley; his daughter, Melissa Philippi; and his two sons, David Nunley Jr. and wife Jonnie and Travis Nunley. He was the proud grandfather of nine grandchildren: Crystal Nunley, Brittany Walker and husband Austin, Ashley Nunley, Josh Carrier and wife Hannah, Mariah Malone, Saran Malone, Janathan Hammonds, River Malone, and Matthew Nunley.


He also leaves behind six great-grandchildren, as well as his sister, Sue Haygood, and three brothers, Joe Nunley and wife Chris, Ben Nunley and wife Pauline, and Don Nunley and wife Barbara. He will be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

David’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and his memory will be cherished forever by his family and friends.


Visitation will be held at 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. on Friday, April 11, 2025, at Frost Funeral Home with a service to follow at 1:00 P.M. with Rev. Joe Nunley and Pastor Tony Nunley officiating. Committal service will follow in procession to Forest Hills Memory Gardens.


Serving as pallbearers are, David Nunley, Jr., Travis Nunley, Josh Carrier, Robert Malone, Mark McCracken, and Joseph Pullon.
