Danny "Dan" Edwards

September 1938 – June 11, 2025

Dan, 86, of Bristol, Virginia, passed away peacefully at Johnson City Medical Center on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, after a brief illness. Born in Salem, Virginia, he was the beloved son of the late William Cosby Edwards and Edna Pauline Wise Edwards.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Dan lived a life of service, integrity, and faith. He proudly served with the Virginia State Police as a Master Trooper for 32 years. During his service he was able to see three presidents and the Queen of England. He was the oldest member of the State Police Tactical Team statewide for many years.

He was a faithful member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church. Dan married the love of his life, Ruby Virginia Garman, in 1959, and together they shared 66 wonderful years of marriage.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Carolyn Templeton; and his daughter-in-law, Patricia Edwards.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Ruby Edwards of Bristol, Virginia; his son, Richard Edwards and wife Gail of Bristol, Virginia; and his cherished granddaughter, Lauren Kaylor and husband Joel of Pennsylvania. He is also survived by two devoted sisters-in-law, Sue Ward of Salem, Virginia, and Pam Amos of Penhook, Virginia.

The family will receive friends on Monday, June 16, 2025, from 12:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. at Frost Funeral Home Chapel in Abingdon, Virginia. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Sam Haynes officiating. Interment will follow with friends and family going in procession to Mountain View Cemetery in Bristol, Virginia.

Honorary Pallbearers will be his cherished Walnut Grove Baptist Church family.

The family would like to give a special recognition to all of Dan’s Walnut Grove Baptist Church family, and to Matt and Angel Hudson; and also, a special thank you to Dr. John Green and his staff for all their love and outstanding care.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Walnut Grove Baptist Church in Mendota, Virginia.

Dan’s legacy of faith, dedication, and love will live on in all who knew him.
