Coy Wilford Martin Jr.

Coy Wilford Martin Jr. of Abingdon, Virginia passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 28, 2025.


Born in Gary, West Virginia on October 9, 1949, he was the son of Coy Wilford Martin Sr. and Eula Williams Martin.  


He lived in Gary, West Virginia until around the age of 13 after which the family moved to Abingdon, Virginia.


He was a graduate of Abingdon High School class of 1967. After High School Coy studied Civil Engineering for two years at the University of North Carolina before beginning a career as a Foreman and Supervisor for several years with W-L Construction.


His distinguished career moved forward to working for Washington County, Virginia as a Building Inspector and then moving to the position of Director of Solid Waste for the county - at one point working both positions for the county simultaneously, which reflected his hard working and dedicated work ethic. He was a member of Meadowview United Methodist Church.


He was a devoted fan of Virginia Tech and loved everything Hokies possible.   He also enjoyed NASCAR racing and enjoyed attending races in the earlier years with friends and family. He was an avid golf player winning a variety of tournaments.


He is preceded in death by his parents Coy Wilford Martin Sr. and Eula W. Martin, and a daughter Kara Elizabeth Martin, as well as his beloved dog and companion Kodie.


He leaves behind his wife of the home Judy Honaker Martin, as well as a daughter Heather LeeAnne Ensor (husband Michael Lee Ensor) of Longs, South Carolina. His sisters Alice Coe of Lebanon, Virginia and Shirley Duncan of Elbert, West Virginia along with several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews, as well as step-nieces and nephews.


Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025, from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. at Frost Funeral Home Chapel in Abingdon, Virginia with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Jerry Harman officiating. Following the service, a procession will travel to Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon, Virginia.


Pallbearers are Steve Mercer, Doug Wells, Ron Patrick, James Colley, Wayne Thomas, and John Pearl.


Honorary Pallbearers are Jerry Vinson, the Glenrochie Country Club 11:00 group and the Clear Creek Golf 11:00 group.
