March 10, 1944 – April 22, 2025
Charlie Hicks at the age of 81 was called home to spend eternity with his Lord and Savior. Though no longer with us, his impact on the community he loved so much will continue for generations to come. Psalm 84:10 was his life verse and he certainly lived it out just as he carried a copy of the verse in his suite pocket every day – “For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.” His life’s work was that of service.
Charlie was a U.S. Army veteran, with service in Germany. He was a former member and past president of the Bristol Kiwanis Club. Charlie worked as a Funeral Director for several local funeral homes over the years helping thousands of families through the most difficult time in their lives. He could be found on any Sunday morning greeting everyone with a smile and a church bulletin at the door of Euclid Avenue Baptist Church where he was a member for many years. Charlie also led teams of deacons and ushers with reverence and knowledge. Through the years he worked with young people showing them the value of kindness, resilience, and teamwork. Throughout much of his young adult life, Charlie found great joy in singing bass with his rich, deep voice in a Christian quartet. While he is now using that beautiful voice to sing praises to his Lord, his story isn’t finished—it’s just begun to inspire new chapters in the lives of those he touched.
Charlie is now reunited in eternal peace with his parents, Charles R & Thelma Hawk Hicks; his three sisters, Barbara Hicks, Jeanette Hicks & Margaret Lee Burnette; and his brother Earl Hicks.
He leaves behind the heritage of a servant’s heart to the following: his loving wife of 54 years, Carolyn Hicks; the delight of his life, son Robert Hicks & wife Misty; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Charlie walked closely with the Lord, ensuring his path was one of integrity for others to follow. We will cherish his memory and continue his servant spirit to honor him.
