Charles Kenneth Widner, was born December 23, 1936, in Abingdon, Va., and went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 8, 2020, at Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Kenneth’s passion in life was to see people come to know Christ as their Lord and Savior. He dedicated his life to serving others through the ministry of the gospel for over 40 years and always put faith in God first. Kenneth pastored Valley View Baptist Church for many years until he retired from preaching.
Kenneth was a veteran of the U.S. Army. After service he moved to Northern Virginia for several years then returned home to take care of his mother until her death.
He was the son of Oscar and Zelda Widner and surrogate father to Melissa Kirschmann, Shannon Brown, Jamie Widner and Duane Wood.
He is survived by brothers, Larry (Jackie) Widner, James (Carole) Widner and sisters, Goldie (Richard) McCroskey, Carol (Tom) Buschman, Elizabeth (Lynn) Ashley and Earlene Wood. He was preceded in death by brothers, Earl, Paul and an infant brother, and sisters, Georgia, Erma, Ruth, Marie and Mildred. His brother, Oscar Junior Widner passed away on the same day as Kenneth.
The family wishes to express a special thank you to all the caregivers who looked after Kenneth during this time.
Due to the coronavirus, there will be a graveside service for family only with Pastor Clinton Goad and Rev. Jerry A. Eggers officiating. Plans are for a public memorial service at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or a charity of your choice.
