Charles Kenneth "Kenny" Doss, Jr.

Charles Kenneth “Kenny” Doss, Jr., 51, a lifelong resident of the Wideners Valley community of Glade Spring, Va., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 3, 2021.


Kenny was saved at the age of 9 years old in Pleasant View Baptist Church. He later was a member of Green Cove Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Damascus Road Baptist and also Grosses Creek Baptist Church. Kenny worked for the State of Virginia for 25 years during those years he worked with VDOT, Washington County School System and was currently with the Forestry Dept. for the last 15 years.


Kenny loved music. He played, sang, and wrote several bluegrass gospel songs. He played with the Mountain Valley Boys for many years and various other bluegrass gospel groups. He enjoyed working on cars and farm equipment with his son.


Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Tammy Proffitt Doss; one son, Brady Doss; his parents, Charles Kenneth Doss, Sr., and Ruth Davenport Doss; brother-in-law, Travis Proffitt; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Roger and Margie Proffitt; nieces and nephews, Ethan and wife Stephanie, Emma, Evan and Ella; several other extended family and many friends.


Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m., Saturday, August 7, 2021, at Pleasant View Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., at the church with Pastor Vann Seal and Rev. John E. Massey, Jr., officiating. Interment will follow at Wideners Valley Community Cemetery.


Serving as pallbearers will be Randy Moretz, John Campbell, L.J. Doss, Jim Owens, Blake Doss, and Tracy Moretz.


In lieu of flowers memorial gifts are suggested to the Wayne C. Henderson School of Appalachian Arts.
