Charles Eugene “Gene” Widener, 72, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at Johnston Memorial Hospital.
Gene was born on March 26, 1952, to the late Herman and Elizabeth Widener. He was a well-known farmer in the Rhea Valley area for most of his life. Gene was a devout Christian and life-long member of Pleasant View Missionary Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, Gene is preceded in death by two brothers, Ernie Widener and Dennis Widener.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Sandra Widener; two sons, Kevin Widener and wife Jennifer, Kelly Widener and wife Nicole; 3 grandchildren whom he adored, Bailey Widener, Blake Widener and Collin Widener; siblings, Nancy Trinkle, Leo Widener (Ann), Rita Sturgill, Judy Ratliff, Pat Bobo (Steve), Connie Widener, Brenda Jessee (Tim), Joyce Tester (Marty) and Steve Widener; Gene is also survived by many other special friends and extended family members.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Pleasant View Missionary Baptist Church from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 4:00 P.M. with Pastor Vann Seal and Pastor Tommy Tester officiating, with the interment to follow at the Pleasant View Missionary Baptist Cemetery.
Gene will be dearly missed, but we know that he is with his best friend now, Jesus.
Pallbearers will be Blake Widener, Collin Widener, Scott Widener, Justin Jessee, Jeff Greer and Larry Widener. Honorary pall bearers will be Gene’s nephews, brothers-in-law, Justin Farmer, Billy Widener, Ernest Wright and Ryan Holloway.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Pleasant View Cemetery Fund.
