Carroll R. Blevins, 89, of Abingdon, Va., passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2022, at Bristol Regional Medical Center due to complications of a stroke.
He was born in Green Cove, Va., to the late Charles and Ressie Blevins. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his late wife, Jessie Mae Lucas Blevins; daughter, Diane Blevins; four brothers and two sisters.
Carroll was one of four siblings who sacrificed and gave their all for their country. He honorably served in the U.S. Army and was a lifetime member of the Damascus V.F.W. Post 9830. Carroll was also a member of the Washington County Moose Lodge. He was an avid outdoorsman, a serious hunter, gardener and fisherman. He was a dedicated NASCAR fan, a HERO and a very special father to many. Carroll was an amazing caring person and will be missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Eula Fay Blevins; children, Robin M. Davis (Herschel, Sr.), Karen Sexton-Phillips (Allen), and Carroll E. Blevins (Brenda Miller); seven grandchildren; Bill Boyer, James Yates, Hershel Davis, Jr., William Blevins, Jordan Blevins, Josh Barr, Dakota Sexton, and Harlie D. Blevins; brothers, Earl Scott Blevins (Jeanne) and Eddie Blevins (Ann); sister, Clara Necessary Barker; several nieces and nephews; step-children, Randy Hicks (Marsha), Sandra Hicks and Tina Lewis; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, step grandchildren and step great-great grandchildren; special caregiver, Lori Ann Blevins; special neighbors, Josh and Haley Cole, and his nephew, Larry Church, his wife, Rena and their family.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at Frost Funeral Home and from 11 a.m., until the time of service Thursday at Green Cove Missionary Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m., Thursday at the church with Pastor Dennis Poe and Mr. Harley Farmer officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors.
Pallbearers will be Rod Taylor, Dakota Sexton, Jordan Blevins, Josh Barr, Hershel Davis, Jr. and Calvin Harless. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Church and Larry Church, Jr.
