Caroll G. Turner

Caroll Gene Turner, age 71 of Abingdon, Va., went home to be with the Lord on July 24, 2021, at his home. Caroll was born in Dickenson County, Va., on June 21, 1950, a son of the late Rev. Claude William Turner and Ernestine Marshall Turner.


Caroll was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who made a lasting impact on many lives over the years. He moved to Washington County, Va., in 1967, after which he became well-known in the community through his work as a contractor. Caroll owned and operated C & B Aluminum Siding Contractors for many years. In addition, he was a faithful member of Greendale Chapel Church in Abingdon, where he served as the bass guitar player for a number of years.


In addition to his parents, Caroll was preceded in death by a sister, Jerry Ratcliff; two brothers, Robert Turner and Jerry Neil Turner; a brother-in-law, Wayne Cochran; and, a niece, Sheila Seal.


Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 42 years, Barbara Fogleman Turner; son, Michael Turner, of Abingdon; daughter, Angela Sullivan and husband Freddy, of Abingdon; one sister, Loretta Cochran, of Clintwood; two brothers, Farrell Turner and wife Bonnie, of Castlewood and Claude Turner, of Abingdon; sister-in-law, Shirley Turner, of Abingdon; brother-in-law, Jerry Ratcliff, of Richmond; grandchildren, Blair Turner and Parker Sullivan; step-grandchildren, Reed Jones and Katie Cameron; and, several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at Greendale Chapel, located at 17468 Rich Valley Road, Abingdon, Va., with a funeral service to follow at 7 p.m., with the Rev. Jerry A. Eggers and the Rev. Eric Ramey officiating. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at 3 p.m., at Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon with L.J. Doss, Aaron Bell, Steve Nerren, Bryan Owens, Bobby Cuddy, Scott Turner, Leroy Shaver and James White serving as pallbearers. The men of Greendale Chapel will serve as honorary pallbearers. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to assemble at the cemetery by 2:45 p.m.
