Carma Belle Cumbo Henley, 82, of Abingdon, Virginia, went to her heavenly home on June 3, 2025, to be with her Lord and Savior, and her beloved parents, sisters, brothers, and friends who passed before her.
Carma was the daughter of the late Harvey James and Alta Lady Baker Cumbo. She was born and grew up in Dickerson County, VA. She moved to Chicago, IL with her first husband in 1960 until late 1976, when she moved back to VA. Carma held various roles, but the ones she loved the most was Mom and Grandma, and CNA work at nursing homes where she grew to love the residents as family.
Carma had a welcoming heart and home, well-known as a “second mom” to her children’s friends and her neighbors, and later in life “Nana” to neighborhood children. On June 12, 1981, Carma married Kerry Columbus Henley, Jr., who survives. In addition to her husband, Carma is survived by two daughters, Ginger L. Adkins McLain (Steve) of Unionville, NC, and Carma Annette Adkins Norris (Bobby) of Abingdon, Va; two sons, Charley Joseph Adkins (Samantha) of Abingdon, VA, and Pearley Dale Adkins (Suk) of Dalzell, SC; three step-daughters, Beverly Henley, Katrina Henley, and Jennetta Henley; one step-son, Curtis Henley (Judy); four grandsons, Nicolas Adkins, Cain Adkins, Justin McLain, Joshua McLain, and Lucas White (Adriana); six granddaughters, Tamica Adkins, Cierra Norris (Monica), Salena Norris, Katilin McLain, Jennie Adkins Scott, and Shena Adkins; three step-granddaughters and one step-grandson; five great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons; and her brother Claud Cumbo (Charlotte) of Abingdon, VA.
A memorial will be held on Monday, June 9, 2025, from 3:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. at Frost Funeral Home in Abingdon, VA, with the Rev. Gerald Smith officiating.
