Buddy Lee Wood

Buddy Lee Wood, 82, of Abingdon, VA graduated into the presence of the Lord on February 11th, 2021 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Putnam County, WV on November 10th, 1938, a son of the late Leslie and Reba Wood.

Buddy was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He was a committed follower of Christ and faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Damascus, VA. He loved his family and treasured any time he could be around them. He was generous in many ways - to his family, his church and to his community. He was an extremely hard worker and especially loved working on cars. After retirement from the West Virginia Water Company, he and Dessie moved to Abingdon in 1998 to be nearer to his family. Buddy will be missed by all who knew him. Buddy is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Dessie Evelyn Wood; two daughters, Drema Alderman (Greg) of Damascus, VA, Rose Bledsoe (Philip) of Abingdon, VA; three sisters, June Polk (Damon) of Barboursville, WV, Ruth Hall of Bardstown, KY, Rena Proudfoot (Norman) of Culloden, WV; one brother, Donald Wood of Hillard, Ohio; four grandchildren, Aubrey Alderman of Johnson City, TN, Noelle Eads (John) also of Johnson City, TN, Judson Alderman (Leslie) of Greenville, SC, and Lily Hammond (Kyle) of Forrest, VA; two great-grandchildren, Lottie & Silas and one great-grandson on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends. The family would also like to express special appreciation to Dr. Clinton Sutherland, of Abingdon VA, for his help and guidance in providing counsel to the family.

A graveside service will be conducted on Sunday, February, 14, 2021, at 3:30 p.m. at Knollkreg Memorial Park, Abingdon, VA with Pastor Greg Alderman and Dr. Judson Alderman, M.D. officiating. The service will be available live-stream at 3:25 p.m., via the funeral home’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/frostfuneralhome.


Due to COVID-19, for the safety of the Abingdon community and all family members and friends in attendance, we are asking that all CDC guidelines be followed including the use face masks and the practice of social distancing.


Pallbearers will be sons-in-law, grandchildren, and grandsons-in-law.


In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for all donations be made in honor of Buddy Wood to the Future Fund of First Baptist Church Damascus, P.O. Box 993, Damascus, VA 24236.
