Barbara Lee Montgomery, 85, a lifelong resident of the Dentons Valley Community, passed away on Monday, January 29, 2024, at Johnston Memorial Hospital.
She was born on February 21, 1938 to the late Charles and Alice Smith. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband of over 62 years, Ernest Montgomery; and two sisters, Ann and Betty.
Barbara enjoyed her garden and farming for many years. She worked for several years as seamstress at Gordon Garment. She also attended Spoon Gap Freewill Baptist Church in Abingdon, Virginia.
Survivors include a brother, Wayne Smith of Abingdon, Virginia; several brother in-laws; a special cousin, Linda and Archie Farmer; and many other cousins; very special friends Allen and Beth Price and Suzie Casey. Barbara is also survived by many other dear friends.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2024, from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. at Frost Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at Montgomery Cemetery with Pastor Herbert Bailey officiating. Those wishing to attend the graveside are asked to meet at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Sammy Price, Edward Farmer, Justin Farmer, Scott Widener, T.J. Widener and Zachary Farmer. Honorary pallbearer will be Paul Johnson.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the Johnston Memorial Cancer Center Staff. They have all gone way above and beyond to love and care for Barbara and they were all very special to her.
