Barbara L. Hamilton, age 84, went to be with the Lord peacefully on Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at her home.
She was born July 12, 1934, in Washington County, Virginia, a daughter of the late James Ernest McCall and Virginia Blevins McCall. She lived her entire life in the Abingdon area and was a 1952 graduate of William King High School. She worked at Harwood Manufacturing Co. as a trainer for many years and retired from Hamilton Oil Co. as the business manager. She was a faithful member of Greendale Chapel, worked in the Vacation Bible School for many years, and was a member of the Ladies’ Group of the Church. Barbara was a kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a strong faith and loved God. Barbara loved her family, church family, and friends very much, and will be greatly missed, but she is in a better place where there is no cancer.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Robert (Bob) Hamilton; one sister, Nellie Jean Kelly; and one brother, Kelly McCall.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathy Burnette and husband David of Bristol, TN, and Debbie Cross and husband David of Bristol, VA; two brothers, David McCall and Jackie McCall and wife Margie, all of Abingdon; four grandchildren, Renee Daugherty and husband Jimmie, Alyson Nerren and husband Steve, Todd Cross and wife Jessica, and Tyler Burnette and wife Alicia; four great-grandchildren, Grace, Cooper, Griffin, and Emma; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 7, 2019, at 8:00 P.M. at Greendale Chapel with Rev. Jerry A. Eggers officiating. The family will receive friends at the Church from 6:30 P.M. until time of the funeral service. Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 8, 2019, at 11:00 A.M. at Knollkreg Memorial Park. Friends are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 A.M. Grandsons and Men of Greendale Chapel will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers. Special thanks is extended to Barbara’s brother, David McCall, and her two daughters, Kathy and Deb, for the excellent care given to her. The family would like to thank the staff at Caris Health and Hospice Care and to Susie McConnell for the wonderful care she received. In keeping with Barbara’s love for children, it is suggested that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Pl, Memphis, TN 38105-9959 in Barbara Hamilton’s memory.
