Barbara Galliher Morton

Abingdon, Virginia

Barbara Galliher Morton passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior on August 21, 2023, at age 95. Born to O. Roland Galliher and Edna Body Galliher, Barbara grew up in Bristol, Virginia, and graduated from Virginia High School. She attended Sullins College and graduated from Mary Washington College with a degree in Fine Arts. While working in Richmond, Barbara met and married Allyn Morton. Together they raised a family while following Allyn’s career, which took them to several states and on many great adventures. With each move, Barbara created a warm and loving home, and instilled in her family the lessons of giving, respect, compassion and faith. She deployed her skill and love of art and beautiful things into many forms of needlework, including perfectly tailored clothes, delicate embroidery and crewelwork, knitting, and quilts. Her last passion was the hand hooking of primitive rugs.

Barbara’s survivors include her children, Allyn H. Morton, Jr. (Maria) and Anne Morton; granddaughters, Georganna Seamon and Kayla Greene (Adam); and great grandchildren Harper and Zeke Greene. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, and a host of lifelong friends, all of whom will miss Barbara’s presence. The family would like to thank special friends and neighbors, the Danko family (Paul, Stephanie, Anna, Emily and Gabe), who shared years of love, laughter, wine, Hokie spirit and help in times of need. The newest members of the Morton family are the caregivers who made Barbara’s last months truly a gift. Amanda Payne, Karen Bowman, Kim Fletcher, Bridgette Demner, Amanda Moro Lazo, and Pearl Roe, RN, provided the utmost in professional care while showing compassion and love.

A cradle Episcopalian and devoted member of St. Thomas in Abingdon for many years, Barbara’s faith guided her life’s journey. Funeral services will be officiated by the Rev. Craig Wylie at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Bristol, the parish where Barbara was baptized and married. The family will visit with friends in the Parish Hall after the service. Remembrances to the music fund of either St. Thomas Episcopal Church (124 E Main St, Abingdon, VA) or Emmanuel Episcopal Church (760 Cumberland Street, Bristol, VA) would be appreciated.

Frost Funeral Home and Cremation Services is honored to be serving the Morton family.
