Avery “Allen” Widener

Avery “Allen” Widener, 53, passed away suddenly on May 25, 2022. He was born on May 22, 1969, in Abingdon, VA.

Allen’s love for his work showed through his experience as a chef. He was a chef at Luke’s Café where he was loved by many. Allen was a sweet, kind, humble man who loved his family and was always helping others. He will truly be missed by all.

He is survived by his loving mother whom he adored, Hazel Baumgardner; father, Joe Widener; son, David Ryan Widener; two sisters, Sabrina Luminella, and Angel Kennedy; two brothers, Frankie Widener and wife Christy and David Allen Widener; two grandchildren, also several nieces, nephews and many other loving family members.


A visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at Frost Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, May 29, 2022 at Greenwood Cemetery, Alvarado, VA. with Pastor Gordon Smith officiating. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 1:45 P.M.


Serving as pallbearers will be, Frankie Widener, Coty Lawson, Charlie Widener, Shawn Lawson, Mitchell Wright, and Larry Coalson.


Honorary pallbearers will be his nephews, uncles, and staff of Luke’s Cafe.

Family may call or visit the home of his mother Hazel Baumgardner in Damascus, VA.
