Audrey Jeanette Phelps Millsap

Audrey Jeanette Phelps Millsap of Abingdon, Virginia, age 89, joined her husband in Heaven on Friday, February 9, 2018, in her home while surrounded by her loving family after an extended ailment of 15 years.

Born to James Phelps and Bess Roe Phelps on September 17, 1928, in Damascus, Virginia, Jeanette was the third of four children. A graduate of William King High School, she worked for many years in the ladies and men’s department of Parks Belk in Abingdon and at Washington County National Bank. In 1989, she retired from Central Fidelity Bank.

Jeanette met and fell in love with Boyd David Millsap. The pair was married March 19, 1954, and had two children together, David and Diane.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Boyd Millsap; and two siblings, Virginia Phelps and Willis Phelps.

She is survived by her son, David Millsap and his wife, Mary; granddaughter, Traci Michelle Millsap, who became the inspiration in Jeanette’s life; her devoted and care giving daughter, Diane Thomas and her husband, Ike; one brother, Edsel Phelps; a brother-in-law, Bruce Millsap; sisters-in-law, Nora Millsap and Delephine Sternaman; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Tim and Freda Pickle, Pat and Doug Jennings.

Jeanette was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class of the Abingdon Baptist Church.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 11, 2018, from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. at Frost Funeral Home in Abingdon with the funeral service to follow at 7:30 p.m. with Mr. Richard Foil officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted on Monday, February 12, 2018, 11 a.m. at Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon. Active pallbearers are John Thomas, Tim Pickle, Jason Thomas, and Quentin Lewis.

The family would like to express tremendous appreciation to the caregivers that provided Jeannette with compassion and comfort: Donna Watson, Debbie Anderson, Lisa Sexton, Brenda Mumpower, John Thomas, and Hometown Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in celebration of Jeanette’s life may be made to the National Stroke Association, 9707 East Easter Lane, Suite B, Centennial, CO, 80112, or to Abingdon Baptist Church, 361 West Main Street, Abingdon, VA 24210.
