Alvin Monroe Kestner

Alvin Monroe Kestner, 72, passed away on Monday, June 19, 2023.


Alvin was born June 12, 1951, to Revonda Kestner and the late Cecil Kestner. He was a retired SFC from the United States Army and also retired from General Engineering where he worked for over 45 years. He loved being outdoors, especially camping and hiking with his daughter. Above all, he was a wonderful husband, father, and friend. His kindness and generosity will live on in the memories of those who knew him and loved him most. He was also a member of Wesley’s Chapel Community Church.


Alvin is survived by his loving spouse of 48 years, Rita Martin Kestner; one daughter, Tanya Kestner; two brothers, Darrell Kestner and wife Karen and Barry Kestner and wife Sharon; three sisters, Norma Heller and husband Mike, Zelma Boardwine and husband David, Malinda Dotson and husband Johnny. Alvin is also survived my many nieces and nephews.


A visitation will be held Friday, June 23, from 12:00 P.M. until 1:00 P.M. at Frost Funeral Home in Abingdon, Virginia. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 P.M. in the Frost Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Brandon Martin and Evangelist Brian Reed officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens.


Woody Blevins, Mack Salyer, Rodney Martin, Mark Hobbs, Luke Hobbs, Michael Heller, and Arian Kestner will serve as pallbearers. Barry Kestner, Darrell Kestner, Gene Martin, Darrell Martin, Dickie Brewer, Waylon Boardwine, and Derek Dotson will serve as honorary pallbearers.


The family will receive friends at 21897 Robindale Rd., Meadowview, VA 24361.
