Truesho “Peta” Patton

Heaven Received Another Angel, Truesho “Peta” Patton, age 94, a former resident of Abingdon, Va., passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2018, under hospice care at her home in Bloomington, Indiana.

Peta was born on February 15, 1924, in London, England, to the late Harry Hirose and Mary Paine Hirose.  After meeting on a blind date, she married her late husband, Arthur Patton, U.S. Army in London in 1943.  After the war Arthur returned to the U.S.A., and the family later settled in Abingdon in 1946.

She was retired from the Washington County, Va., General District Court after serving endlessly as Clerk of the Court for nearly 40 years. Peta was active in her civic duty and always worked to make Abingdon a wonderful town, she was instrumental in getting the Washington County Public Library built and later served as president of the board of directors, she volunteered countless hours to the Barter Theatre and the Virginia Highlands Festival.  She was involved with Friends of the Library, Booklovers Club, Abingdon Newcomers Club, Meals on Wheels and the Washington County Food Bank.

Peta was a member of Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church and the Mattie Rountree Women’s Club.

She was a loving wife and mother.  Peta always tried to help anyone she could and was greatly admired by her community.  She always had a smile for everyone.

Survivors include three sons, David M. Patton of Abingdon, Va., Christopher Patton (Cynthia) of Bloomington, Indiana and Walter Patton of Johnstown, Penn.; two grandchildren, Amanda Patton of Indianapolis and Melissa McCoy (Patrick) of Louisville, Kentucky; two great grandchildren, Elijah McCoy and Ella Grace McCoy.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., on Saturday, November 17, 2018, at Frost Funeral Home.  Family and friends will then travel in procession to Knollkreg Memorial Park for a graveside service with the Rev. Tim Bird officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
