Larry Allen Tharp, 74, of Abingdon, Va., passed away on Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at his home.
Larry had lived in the Abingdon area for the past 30 years moving from Arkansas. He was retired from Sheehan Construction after 44 years of working on the pipeline. He was a longtime member of the International Union of Operating Engineers. Larry was an avid hunter and fisherman, he also enjoying shrimping for many years.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be truly missed with many great memories.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J.W. Tharp, Jr. and Esther Tharp Grossman; and one son, Kerry Tharp.
Survivors include his wife, Ida R. Tharp of the home; five children, Danny Tharp, William Clayman (Kimberly), Debbie Lambert, Susan Ryder and Maryann Lupo; nine grandchildren, Nick Lambert, Lauren Lambert, Ryan Lambert, Alex Clayman, Danny Tharp, Jr., Casandra Rawson and Danielle Tharp, Chad and Trisha Necessary; five great grandchildren, Kaley Rawson, Jordan Rawson, Tanner and Makishea Necessary and Cole Clifton; one sister, Sherri Roussell; five brothers, Anthony Tharp, Jerry Tharp, Randal Tharp, David Reaves and Frank Pawela; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., on Saturday, December 1, 2018, at the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum in Knollkreg Memorial Park. A service will follow at 12 p.m., in the mausoleum with Pastor Dan Birchfield officiating.
