Jean Harris Collins

Jean Harris Collins, age 93, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 21, 2018, at the Oaks nursing facility in Raleigh, NC. Mrs. Collins was formerly a resident of Washington County, Virginia for 50 years and taught math at John S. Battle high school and Wallace elementary for much of that time. Jean was originally from Appalachia and Pound, a graduate of Berea College and taught school in Wise County prior to marriage. She was a member of Spring Creek Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Collins and daughter, Janet. Jean is survived by son, Joe Collins and daughter-in-law, Connie of Apex, NC and sister, JoAnn Pope of Waynesboro, PA. She will be missed by granddaughter, Jennifer Parker, husband Chris, great-grandchildren, Lily and Keely of Raleigh, NC and granddaughter, Amy Crabtree, husband Bobby, great-grandchildren, Camron and Chase of Durham NC. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, April 26, 2018, in the Frost Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m.  with Rev. Fred Parker officiating.  Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Forest Hills Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations are suggested to the Duke Cancer Institute or to the charity of your choice.
